Plans for one of the largest events venue in the South East, for which Terence O'Rourke has undertaken the detailed architectural design and achieved planning permission, have been unveiled by Farnborough International this week.
Scheduled to open in 2018, Hall 1 of the Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre will boast 20,000 sqm of event space, a12,500sqm divideable exhibition hall as well as 2500 conference seats and 14 multi-purpose function rooms.
Planning and design consultancy Terence O'Rourke took inspiration for the look and feel of the structure from Farnborough's long association with aircraft design, testing and development and the iconic buildings of TAG Farnborough Airport and the Aviator Hotel.
Terence O'Rourke was brought in as part of Farnborough International's strive to improve its facilities to compete with other international events and continue to be a champion of UK aerospace industry.
Now the name and design of the building has been announced, work will start immediately after the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow, which takes place 11th-17thJuly.
The state-of-the-art building will cater for a wide range of exhibitions, conferences, meetings and corporate events. The bold design of the building, with its angled roofline and extensive glazing facing the airfield, is intended to link the pivotal gateway site location as well as symbolising engineering excellence. The design respects the site's aviation heritage, using durable materials with a strong aerospace aesthetic. Sustainable construction methods will be used with lightweight, modular construction techniques and high performance recyclable materials and has been designed to BREEAM's 'very good' standard.
