The practice has been planning consultant to the airport since 1998. Most recently, we prepared a planning application, together with the airport master plan that preceded it, for improvements to increase annual passenger capacity at the airport from 12 million to 18 million by 2031 and to improve passenger experience. The development includes a larger, modernised terminal building, a new two-storey pier, a newly configured road system and central terminal area, extended aprons and a new parallel taxiway. We coordinated the environmental impact assessment that was undertaken as part of the application, and the practice had a leading role during post-submission negotiations with the local planning authority. Planning consent was achieved in June 2014.
Previously, we assisted with the preparation of the original airport development brief and, since its adoption, have helped ensure development plan policies and regional strategies reflect the airport’s role in local and regional regeneration. We helped gain or confirm planning permission for an extension to the terminal; new walkways, taxiway link, aircraft stands, cargo centre, hangar and fixed base operation for a business airline, engine run up bay; revisions to the fire training ground; a new customs immigration hall; revisions to the exterior of the existing terminal and extended car parking. We also coordinated related environmental studies.
