Terence O’Rourke was appointed by Care South in December 2012 to advise on how to overcome Poole Borough Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the redevelopment of the former 39 bed Alexandra House Care Home in Poole, for a 60 bed care home and nine close care units.
Working closely with Scurr Architects Ltd, Terence O’Rourke liaised with the council’s planning and design officers to understand their concerns and recommended a number of design changes be made to the submitted plans. The application was resubmitted in August 2013 and approved by officers under delegated powers in November 2013.
Pursuant to this permission, Care South appointed Carless & Adams Partnership to redesign the home to make it more affordable to build and planning permission was subsequently obtained for a 58 bed care home and nine close care units. The development was constructed by Parsons & Joyce and it opened in April 2018.
