London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames appointed us as architect and landscape architect to work on a number of schools in the area. The aim was to provide additional educational accommodation through a mixture of new and refurbished buildings.
Kew Riverside is an entirely new school with space for more than 200 primary pupils and 26 nursery places.
The single storey, L-shaped building has a significant landscape buffer so that, together with the adjacent taller gymnasium, it encloses a central rectangular hard play area. This reduces the impact of playground noise and ensures the children have a safe environment.
The classrooms are paired together and clad either in render, zinc, timber or fibre cement board.
