Architecture
Richmond Council appointed us as architect and landscape architect for this primary school, one of several that we worked on in the area. The school accommodates more than 400 pupils and has a nursery and Emotional Behavioural Disorder (EBD) Unit.
The two-storey, staggered building makes innovative use of a step in the site, allowing both floors to open out onto external play spaces. The rendered classroom block has timber pods, cantilevered out from the wing to form group rooms at first floor level. The EBD Unit is timber clad and opens out onto a secure play area.
The main school facilities are housed in a single storey brick block topped by a glass box above the hall to form an impressive double-height space. External landscape planting complements the building.
