The Borough of Poole Council appointed us lead consultant and architect to provide new teaching facilities at Parkstone Grammar School, enabling it to become part of a single structure for schools across Poole.
The scheme includes a new three-storey art and technology block, combined with seven general teaching classrooms. The block comprises two linear wings connected by a central ‘spine’ or street, with the main entrance and communal space located at its east end.
Food technology, electronics, graphics and resistant materials are located on the ground floor. The first floor accommodates the general teaching rooms, with art and textiles located on the second floor. An external terrace is proposed as a breakout space for outdoor teaching in fine weather.
When the art and technology rooms move from the existing science block to the new building, the block will be remodelled and refurbished to provide a total of twelve science laboratories, five prep rooms, an ICT suite and extended staff facilities.
