When Isle of Wight Council refused permission for Ryde School to undertake improvements to their property, Terence O’Rourke was asked to assist. Coming in at a late stage, they assessed the Council’s original objections. These were on the grounds of design and impact on a Conservation Area and the team prepared an appeal robustly supporting the architectural plans by making reference to the historic setting, listed buildings and Conservation Area.
The new entrance building was shown to be thoughtfully designed, that it would not greatly impact on the neighbourhood or local roads and that alterations to the listed building would be sympathetic and in harmony with the buildings it would live alongside. The scheme received very few objections and on appeal the Inspector agreed that the scheme should go ahead.
The new Bembridge building was officially opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex.
