Terence O’Rourke supported Veolia at every stage throughout a three-year bid process for the Nottinghamshire integrated waste management PFI contract. Veolia was awarded a 26-year contract. The contract is for the provision of a number of new integrated waste management facilities, including an 85,000 tonnes per annum MRF, a 180,000 tonnes per annum energy recovery facility and a household waste recycling centre.

We were retained to lead the team that prepared the planning application and supporting material, including the environmental statement, for one of the first projects to be delivered, an MRF at Mansfield. The application was submitted and consent was secured from the local planning authority. Construction of the MRF has been completed and the new recycling facility is fully operational.

The site was formerly part of the Crown Farm colliery site and therefore land contamination and site stability matters needed to be addressed. Also because ecological surveys identified the presence of the locally important plant species, Vipers Bugloss, on this brownfield site, our ecologist managed the translocation of the plants off-site prior to construction commencing.
