Portsmouth Energy Recovery Facility (ERF)
Client: Hampshire Waste Services
(now Veolia Environmental Services)
We produced a supporting statement for the planning application, advised on planning matters and participated in public consultation. The project was subject to a planning inquiry where we presented evidence on planning and related matters, and permission was subsequently granted.
The plant is adjacent to an existing materials recovery facility, with which it shares exciting architectural design. The ERF treats 165,000 tonnes of municipal waste per year from Hampshire Waste Services’ south eastern operational area. Combined with other waste management facilities it is enabling reductions in landfill and increases in recycling. It also supplies enough electricity to the grid for 14,000 houses.
