Terence O’Rourke was appointed by Wind Energy / AES as planning and EIA manager and lead consultant for a portfolio of wind farm sites in Scotland. The practice’s input has ranged from due diligence, site identification and evaluation through to preparation and submission of full applications, EIAs and support for public inquiries.
Three sites from the portfolio were progressed to application stage. North Rhins wind farm, on the west coast of Scotland, was granted planning permission and is now operational. Newfield and Earlshaugh wind farms, located in Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders respectively, were submitted to Scottish Government and are currently awaiting determination through public local inquiries.
The practice worked closely with the client and design team to ensure that all environmental constraints were taken into account in order to determine the most suitable layout for the turbines and supporting infrastructure. In addition, the practice produced and coordinated bespoke planning and political strategies and designed and produced project exhibitions for all three projects.
