Scout Moor Wind Farm
Lancashire
Client: United Utilities Green Energy Ltd and Peel Investments (North) Ltd
Town planning
The practice joined the project team following a decision by the DTI to refer the Section 36 Electricity Act application for 26 wind turbines at Scout Moor, Lancashire, to a public inquiry.
Terence O’Rourke Ltd presented evidence on the planning policy background to the proposals, site selection, the need for renewable energy, the impacts of climate change, renewable energy policy, impacts on recreation and public attitudes to wind farms. We worked closely with experts in landscape and visual effects, ecology, noise, cultural heritage, construction, hydrology and electro-magnetic interference. The appeal was upheld by the Energy Minister following a positive recommendation from the Inquiry Inspector.
The wind farm, now operational and with an installed capacity of 76MW, is one of the largest onshore wind farms in England.
