Terence O’Rourke were commissioned by Clark Estates to design and build a new contemporary home in the heart of Branksome Park, Poole, Dorset.
The accommodation wraps around a double height internal street, which provides a heart for the home and gives a simple organisation to the sequence of spaces and rooms. The house is clad with a mixture of limestone terracotta tiles and ivory through-coloured render. The interior echoes the external colours, with American Walnut timber and cool limestone flooring helping to create a clean and contemporary feel.
The building provides a very high specification and quality of finish, which is integrated with a stringent set of self-imposed sustainability credentials. Renewable technology has been integrated by using high performance solar collectors and an air source heat pump linked to a
thermal store.
A heat recovery and pollen-reducing whole house mechanical ventilation system, intelligent building LCD touch screen, low energy lighting and a rainwater harvesting tank are a few of the sustainable features.
