Terence O’Rourke was commissioned by Husen Developments to develop a design strategy for the redevelopment of a site in the heart of Branksome Park, Poole, Dorset. Set in an area that has now become famous for its large, ostentatious properties, the client wanted to create a discreet, restrained house that made the best possible use of the beautiful setting.
The design echoed the single storey nature of modern homes of the 1930s. The accommodation wraps around an internal courtyard, which provides a heart for the home and gives a simple organisation to the sequence of spaces and rooms.
The building provides a very high specification and quality of finish, which is integrated with a stringent set of self-imposed sustainability credentials.
The project was completed at a cost of £1.4 million delivering an area of 545sqm costing £2,568 per sqm.
