Kings Hill is now one of Europe’s truly mixed use and sustainable communities, with a wide range of attractive residential neighbourhoods, set within high quality landscapes. Residents benefit from plentiful open space including a cricket pitch and pavilion, a golf course and country park. The district centre provides for local needs with an Asda foodstore, restaurants, pharmacies, coffee shops, the Spitfire public house, GP practice, and other shops. The 3,000 homes support two new children’s nurseries/pre-schools and two primary schools; and the safety of the community encourages walking and cycling to school. There are plentiful employment opportunities on site arising from the 2mnsqft (185,806sqm) of employment space, which has attracted both local and international businesses. A bus service provides ready access to West Malling railway station. 

Terence O’Rourke was appointed to create the master plan for the former West Malling airfield site. As best practice and market conditions have changed over time we have successfully secured three revisions to the land use mix. The community has been able to evolve over its twenty-year development, resulting in a more balanced community compared to the original mix.
