Northstowe New Town
Client: Gallagher Estates
An outline planning application was submitted by Gallagher and English Partnerships, (now the HCA) in 2007, however this was never determined and the scheme was affected by the recession. Gallagher then appointed Terence O’Rourke to advise on a planning strategy for delivering the Northstowe new town in Cambridgeshire.
We assisted the joint promoters, the HCA and Gallagher, to define a new, phased approach to delivering the 10,000 new homes, associated community facilities and infrastructure. Utilising our planning and master planning skills we refreshed the vision for Northstowe, and prepared a revised master plan illustrating the layout and design of the settlement.
We prepared a Development Framework document to complement the Northstowe Area Action Plan in the context of today’s circumstances – with greater emphasis on sustainability and energy management for example.
We subsequently prepared a first phase planning application and design code, and we continue to be appointed through implementation stages.
