The practice prepared a comprehensive proposal for Galliford Try’s successful bid for the redevelopment of Turner Village Hospital, Colchester. This master plan has been implemented and is in the process of being delivered as a contemporary, high quality development of 367 residential units across a mix of types and tenure. The master plan also includes a primary school, a village square and a parkland area.
The design responds positively to the site location and context, in particular the challenging topography. Design solutions including the location of open space, orientation of dwellings, creation of a clear street hierarchy and careful arrangement of parking within an integrated landscape scheme ensures that the full development potential has been realised.
All disciplines have been involved in the project from
bid, through planning and into construction stages. The design has been developed to respond to changing market conditions and regulatory frameworks over recent years, with alterations to the mix and types of dwellings to address a change in market demand, and a change in construction methodology to take advantage of new
cost-effective systems.
