Following a strategic review of Crown Golf’s portfolio, we were appointed to provide planning and environmental expertise for the enhancement of St Mellion Golf Resort in Cornwall. The vision we prepared sought to restore St Mellion to its former glory, bringing international tournaments back to the venue and creating an enhanced resort to compete with the best in the world.
A key part of the vision was to enhance the accommodation offer at the resort. Planning consent was obtained for a proposal that included the provision of on site golfers’ accommodation of 265 golf homes and a new 80-bedroom hotel. Redevelopment included a refurbished clubhouse and leisure facility and significantly improved access and parking.
Preparation of a design code was a condition of the consent. Our urban designers worked closely with the council, golf lodge developer Living Villages, and Crown Golf to write a code that would deliver high quality development adjacent to the highly sensitive Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The code was approved and construction of the first golf homes started soon afterwards.
