Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is an internationally significant destination and one of the most talked-about new districts in London. As part of the Olympic Legacy framework new neighbourhoods will be created on the selected locations of the Olympic 2012 site. The practice was part of the design team working for Sweetwater and East Wick bid consortium.
TOR provided the planning, public realm and landscape masterplanning services for the legacy project. Our vision for the public realm was to provide the new community with spaces that are inspiring, joyful, which are open and accessible to all, and well integrated within the framework of the AECOM master plan for the London Olympics.
The approach taken in the spatial landscape and ecological design for the new communities, which is to separate but link the areas, rests on the fundamental assets of place and heritage. These, juxtaposed with this iconic Olympic site, associated grand scale buildings, and the park itself, offer a unique tension and excitement.
