Terence O’Rourke was commissioned to lead a team of consultants to produce a visionary master plan and development brief to deliver a sustainable technology park in Wrexham. The highest environmental standards were required to realise the clients’ ambitions of attracting high quality, high value leading edge employment opportunities.
The master plan and development brief were subject to extensive stakeholder engagement through a series of workshops conducted by the team, ensuring a consensual approach to the output. The layout was designed to utilise the site’s topography and southerly aspect in order to minimise environmental impact and maximise environmental gain.
The proposals incorporate leading edge sustainable design concepts using renewable energy supplies from photovoltaics, biomass and combined heat and power, designed to meet the Welsh Assembly Government’s zero-carbon target. Natural drainage systems, habitat creation and ecological diversity were fundamental to the landscape strategy and the green transport strategy aims to reduce car use and parking requirements as the
park evolves.
